Bio: 

Dan Russell is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Arizona. He specializes in ancient philosophy and ethics, and his work focuses on ancient philosophy as a source for expanding contemporary options for thinking about how to improve our lives. He has written on human flourishing (Happiness for Humans, Oxford University Press, 2012), virtues of character (Practical Intelligence and the Virtues, Oxford University Press, 2009; The Cambridge Companion to Virtue Ethics, Cambridge University Press, 2013), and moral psychology (Plato on Pleasure and the Good Life, Oxford University Press, 2005). His current research focuses on human flourishing: what it is to live well (human well-being), how people do better at living their lives (virtue and moral development), and what people in free societies might aspire to become (social institutions and political economy).
